Frustrated with what was on offer in terms of field portable impactor bioaerosol sampling pumps, Solidsense Ltd started working on a bespoke field portable sampling pump in 2019 to enhance its service offering. Following a year of research and bench testing a pump design was finalised and our first pumps built in early 2020. 

Our field portable pump is made considerably lighter than many alternative pumps due to the use of an energy dense lithium ion internal battery pack combined with rigid plastic casing. The pump is versatile in terms of power options able to run on the internal battery pack or external battery sources. As well as power versatility, the pump has manual and auto timer functions.

We didn't want to just make a lighter and more versatile pump though. Designing this pump we 'future-proofed' it by building in a trigger for timing the operation of an external sampling device currently being worked on.

Whilst we use our pumps to offer standard ambient bioaerosol monitoring in line with the Environment Agency M9 guidance note, we continue to develop and perfect a new sampling head to provide a more robust dataset.
